However, it wasn’t as easy and certainly not without challenges.

An Indian woman loves nothing more than to own, to collect, and to wear a variety of beautiful sarees. We women are fascinated by the intricate weaves, patterns, and colours of different regions, unique and diverse cultures across the Indian subcontinent and it’s not a secret that we women are always on the treasure hunt of something unique that nobody else could possibly possess!

The challenge here is that regular retail stores cannot always fulfil the wish list of the saree hunting woman. For example, if you as for ‘kala pathar’ saree in any reputed shop in Kolkata which may be famous for its vast collection of handloom sarees, chances are that even the shop owner isn’t aware of any such weave. I’ve experienced this during my saree hunt! The diversity of weaves is mind boggling and it’s no wonder that the saree shops in cities are not quite aware of those.

Such experiences and challenges have inspired me to launch an initiative of an online store, “SakhiDreamlooms^®”, to bring authentic handloom cotton and silk sarees from across the nook and corner of this vast country under one umbrella and make those available to the saree loving women Sakhis who may not able to reach the remotely situated handloom weavers and hand print clusters of India.
